The Guesthouse opens a new chapter in the career of pianist and composer Shai Maestro, one of the distinctive voices of contemporary jazz. The title comes from Rumi’s poem of the same name and its image of a “guesthouse” where every emotion and every encounter is given a place. For Maestro, this idea becomes the starting point for a project about openness and the way music can create a shared space.
Released in 2026, the album is one of his most ambitious projects to date, both in the scale of its compositions and in the range of its collaborations. Acoustic jazz is placed in dialogue with electronics and orchestral textures, preserving the deeply melodic character of Maestro’s music while opening it towards new directions.
In Timișoara, Shai Maestro will present The Guesthouse alongside drummer Amir Bresler and bassist Orlando Le Fleming, one of Maestro’s regular collaborators in recent years. In this setting, the compositions remain open to improvisation, allowing what happens between the three musicians to subtly change the way the same story is told from one moment to the next.
