Jaga Jazzist
For more than three decades, Jaga Jazzist has explored the space between jazz, post-rock, electronics and psychedelia, becoming one of the most distinctive and influential acts in the Norwegian scene. Formed in Tønsberg in 1994 by brothers Lars and Martin Horntveth, the group has gradually expanded the idea of what a jazz band can be, bringing acoustic instruments, synthesizers and electronic rhythms into the same musical framework.
The album A Livingroom Hush, released in 2001 and distributed internationally by Ninja Tune, brought the band international recognition and became a landmark for a new generation of experimental jazz. It was followed by The Stix, What We Must, One-Armed Bandit and Starfireeach album marking a new stage in the development of a sound that resists being contained within a single category. In 2013, Jaga Jazzist expanded its musical scope through an extensive collaboration with Britten Sinfonia, while in 2020 the band joined Brainfeeder, the label founded by Flying Lotus, for Pyramid, an album that pushed jazz, post-rock and psychedelia towards almost cosmic dimensions.
In 2026, Jaga Jazzist continues to look ahead. After more than 30 years of exploration, the band remains committed to one simple rule: not repeating what it has already done. Every live appearance becomes another opportunity to see how this musical language continues to change on stage, after more than three decades of development.
